GCS has a new website

Offenburg, October 2023 – The Global Conservation Standard has a new web presence. Besides a cleaner appearance, now you can view projects on the map, find pictures and more information on them.

“We have come a long way”, states GCS Chair Michael Dutschke. He co-founded the Standard 12 years ago, with the aim of establishing a land-use standard that took account of the underlying causes of deforestation and land degradation. Years before the “landscape approach” was coined in the international debate, the GCS defined an area of influence of protected resources. “Admittedly, we had hoped to set off much more quickly”. For the first projects that became funded, not as much methodological refinement was required, as initially planned, and the whole NGO still works on pro-bono terms. “Therefore, some business remained unfinished”, he explains.

With the new website in place, the exact location of each core conservation area of the validated projects can be tracked on a map, and additional information is available at your fingertips. Also, the GCS is  building up an independent Registry and – coming up in the near future – a sales platform for Conservation Credit Units to raise funds that contribute to the development of new landscape conservation areas.

While content is still being added to the site, the “old” website www.globalconservationstandard.org will remain online.
